What is Khan Really Doing?

I'm really surprised at all the blog commenters who seem to think it's a good thing to have an ex-Pakistan air force pilot going around the world on secret Canadian business, about which Canadians will never know. What is he doing? Harper says that both Khan and he agree that Canada should have a "more assertive role in world affairs", well what does that mean? Given H.'s last 12 months I think it means "make more war". Maybe Khan is visiting all those secret CIA camps around the world, gathering intelligence. I was appalled when I first learned last year that he was both a Liberal and a secret advisor to the C. prime minister. Dion had to tell him to choose - he should have been told at the outset.

And on the issue of comparing this situation to Dion's dual citizenship, that's really beyond the pale. For Mr. Coyne, who seems like an intellect to be admired, to say "No, indeed. The idea's absurd. It's like, I don't know, being Prime Minister of one country and a citizen of another." is incredible. I guess he either has major lapses or he isn't what he seems. We should be asking instead how someone raised in the Pakistan culture and in their military sub-culture who has now exhibited loyalty issues should be handling sensitive aspects of Canada's international affairs.

Khan is a pawn used by Harper first to embarrass Liberals but yesterday he was used in a brilliant move by Dion to delay an election and make the NDP take the fall for propping up a conservative gpvernment. Harper has never faced a unified Liberal PArty behind one leader and he's about to find out how difficult that is.

We were backed into a corner too amny times over the past year and Dion isn't going to let that happen again. Dion just took control of the agenda yesterday.

Kahn is a nobody who will be gone soon enough.

Did you or any Liblogs writer ever criticize Belinda in this fashion a year and a half ago when she crossed the floor? Oh wait, it was "ideological differences" aka a cabinet post. Kahn received no new positions, and stated that Dion's Liberals have grown away from his views. Which of these two makes a stronger case for "ideological differences" after all?

Oh, I forgot that the Liberals run the country always and forever and that the double standard still applies.

it's a legitimate comparison, susan.

Dion brought up divided loyalties. What was it he said? Khan could not have one foot in the opposition and another foot in the govt. He had to choose who he was going to be loyal to.

Well, as a PM hopeful, Dion can not have one foot in canada and one in France and not have people (just like he did with Khan) question his loyalty.

Except we've been told by dion that he is loyal to Canada. We have to take him at his word.

Why is that good enough for him (it's not, in my opinion), but for Khan it is not?
