More on the HRDC Debacle

Some analyses are coming in on the impact of the HRDC summer student grant revised guidelines. The latest: of 1000 jobs that were provided by federal grants last year in Cape Breton Island, 100 were awarded for 2007, a 90% cut in funding. One can only conclude intent or gross negligence by Mr. H et al.

As I understand the changes, the perpective will be national, with the focus on more needy students such as aboriginals, instead of divided up by ridings.
The changes have Cons MPs howling too.

IMO the changes are good. ex: one of the richest farmers in our area used to apply and get funded from this student program, every year, to have their kids get paid to work the summer on their farm.
That happened because there was x $ allocated to the riding, and that was also where the decisions were made. (and the recipients were active Dippers in an NDP riding)

When is closing down museums and summer programs for kids and tourist services and . . and . . and . . . good? This is a completely botched program and indicates a government that has no idea whatsoever about how to govern.
