Translation of Harper's Latest Doublespeak

"Comprehensive Budget" = major cuts to the civil service and government programs, as part of the only agenda Harper has ever had and ever will have - downsizing the federal government and promoting a fundamentalist ideological right wing agenda. Watch for it.

Funny how the oh-so-liberal Liberals can be so intolerant of any opinions but what their own narrow minds can conceive of. To this and many other so-called liberals, anything to the right of a left/lib conception of society is a fundamentalist, right-wing agenda. So pathetic.

Weakening the federal government is a very stupid thing to do for the future of this country, unless of course you just want to join the US right now, or should I say be absorbed by it. You know if you don't have a blog name you can sign a name at the end.

I don't think it would be an amalgamation with the United States as much as it would be a total submission to the corporations who finance and direct various political parties. However if another George Bush style right wing republican gets back in power for the U.S., then yes your probably correct. As to the assault on the civil servants and various government agencies, we have seen this type of activity as the most consistent thing from the Harper Conservatives, I believe your absolutely bang on, that he will only intensify that massacre of our Canadian institutions and do it in the name of recession/deficit adjustments.

Susan: Iggy's call for tax cuts only helps Harper further his agenda. Iggy has given Harper cover to include tax cuts in the budget and he has given himself the ability to support the budget. I am so deeply disappointed. Iggy has clearly decided that the coalition is off the table for Iggy and that will be bad for the LPC (Iggy is hurting the party with non-aligned progressive voters both on coalition and his hawkish stance on the Gaza conflict) and more importantly bad for the country. This prog voter will not be very keen on the Liberal Party if they scuttle the coalition and support Harper.

Dear Anonymous (8:36)
Your assumption that Mr. Ignatieff's stances on various issues has hurt the party, well I think is absolutely absurd and misinformed. If you look at the most recent poll results they actually show a substantial boost for the Liberal Party. The more I review some of the comments made on the different blogs the more I think we certainly have a very divisive group within the community, I do find it odd that most of the questionable comments come under the title "ANONYMOUS". However I am beginning to think that these progressive voters you say that Mr. Ignatieff is hurting sound more related to the fanatical right wing Conservative voters. That is just an observation or thought, I guess only time will tell, but I for one think he is doing a good job so far in uniting the party and improving the Liberal image to the rest of Canada.

Anonymous: I must say I agree that Ignatieff does not seem to be showing that he understands Harper's techniques - giving Harper an out and then saying but we will take you down if we don't like the budget is too wishy washy for Harper. If there's an inch of wiggle room Harper will make it a mile.
