Mr. H. Out to Get Women, the Environment, Arts and Culture

Well, I've been silent for a while now, trying to make sense of what is going on. Harper does not represent Canadians. He is attacking our fundamental values. So why aren't Canadians getting it? I can't figure it out. I also can't figure out what's wrong with the Liberals. I don't think Dion is the problem, so why are some of the MPs so disloyal - they can't stand to gain anything by it. Maybe Dion is too nice, maybe there are rightwingers in the party who want the pro American faction to rule (about which I've posted before). And what is with the media, they exult on every Dion mistep like rabid dogs.

The reason I'm not silent today is the surplus. We had to listen to those Harper idiots go on and on about incompetent management resulting in a surplus and what are they saying now!!?? Then they put it all on the debt and try to pretend that us working stiffs are going to get a tax break, oh, like the last one that was a really a tax hike?!

But for me the real whopper (and I am shocked that it isn't what the rabid dogs are going after): Canadians are awash in government money but Women's programs and Environmental programs and Arts and Culture programs are getting a second round of cuts. Please Canadians, take note, don't fall for the b.s. that these cuts are about saving money - these are about ideology. They are about making our government as misogynist, mean-spirited, nasty-minded, oil obsessed and tyrannical as Mr. H. himself.

Is Mr Harper out to get women and attack the environment? Probably not. Does Mr McGuinty have it in for Autistic children and cancer patients? Probably not. When your in power Susan you make some difficult and horrible decisions, and, you live with them and hope the voters understand. Conservatives are pulling out their hair trying to figure out why they cant unseat Mr McGuinty, his broken promises and the unbelievable 900$ a person health tax...it should have been easy, but, Ontario's economy is ok, its stumbling a bit, but, thats more to do with the US economic problems, he's been steady and hasnt rocked the boat. The same can be said about Mr Harper, 21 billion dollars in 2 years paid against our debt, a savings of almost 1.2 billion dollars a year in interest payments, he's been steady and firm. Its alot of fun watching both Conservatives and Liberals question voters inteligiance about giving McGuinty and Harper another mandate, when, both leaders are almost mirror image's of themselves. To insist that Mr Harper be defeated on his record in the next election would mean a pro John Tory stance as well, to do anything else would be hypocritical.

Yes. You just echoed my thoughts exactly, Susan!

I am also angry and now, it is not only with the Conservatives and their lies. I am equally angry with Canadians as a whole. Are they as blind and stupid as they are starting to seem? It was bad enough that Harper was given a minority gov't the 1st time, that he still hovers anywhere near registering even minimal approval in polls is beyond me.

For years, polls have clearly outlined that approximately 80% of Canadians disapprove of the Bush Administration, yet at home, they can stomache approval of essentially the same thing?

Dion, a political science professor who specialized in the use of politics to promote peace, a bilingual man, highly educated, born and raised in Canada with Canadian ideas of fairness exuding from his pores is not a LEADER worthy of our consideration???

I am flabbergasted and thoroughly disgusted by the cynical, whiny, ungrateful, disloyal attitudes of all Canadians of every political stripe and journalistic persuasion.

Harper is not out to get women for goodness sake! Women are not weak, stupid, fragile people who need to be taken care of. Environment - Liberals had years to do something and didn't. Arts and culture - is very subjective and I don't want government throwing money at what some people consider to be art. I'd rather my taxes be lowered, or the money put to health care. If you want art and culture, pay for it yourself. As far as Dion goes, obviously most Canadians do not see what you see and don't agree with you.

"Women are not weak, stupid, fragile people who need to be taken care of."

This is the same mantra that shows up in the comments every time I mention Harper's anti-women policies. But isn't that the point, women are not weak and stupid and therefore we will make sure that laws discriminating against women are revoked or not passed in the first place and that all the benefits of this society flow to women as they do to men. And there is quite a ways to go yet.

And the first thing we will do is vote out Mr. H.

Susan,

You said:

"...we will make sure that laws discriminating against women are revoked or not passed in the first place..."

and so what, pray tell, did this have to do with Stephen Harper?

Where has he built or planned laws that discriminate against women? If I recall correctly he actually fixed a severe injustice affecting aboriginal women. But no kudo's, right?

Why not? Is it because of the Status of Women? If so, please explain how cutting government funding to an NGO that is free to solicit funds from anybody they wish is "discriminating against women".

Just anti-conservative talking points as far as I can tell.

I agree his policies are bad, but I don't think Canadians are dumb or stupid. We are a diverse country and trying to belittle those who don't share your view won't work.

One just has to compare the Ontario Liberal campaign which was largely positive vs. the federal Liberal one in 2006 which was largely negative to see insulting voters who don't share your views doesn't work. Persuading those to come over to your side works far better.
