I don't think that it was a question of listening to the nervous nellies. His speech was dictated by them: Michael Ignatieff and Bob Rae. In fact Dion is now just a puppet of those who failed to get Ignatieff or Rae elected at the Liberal leadership convention! The next step is to see if he can eat the Omnibus Crime bill without vomiting in public.
I agree. I think that it would have at least showed some courage and leadership and belief in principles on Dion's part if he had decided to bring down the government over the Throne Speech.
Worst of all, of course, is that the Conservatives will make a confidance motion out of every policy proposal mentioned in the throne speech.
So... either the Liberals keep swallowing whole Conservative policy after Conservative policy with out meaningful opposition, or they'll have to eventually bring the government down anyway.
