Now I know why the Liberals Lost!!

Go to Liblogs and see how many wussy Liberals were shocked at the young lady with the Stop Harper sign. These guys shocked me!! This young woman is spot on - we have a democracy that 25% of eligible voters can control if they elect the right machiavellian leader. When 75% of Canadians have no effective voice and all the opposition wants to do is be more polite, then it is time for civil disobedience. I for one am enormously grateful for what that young lady did.

And duh - of course she knew she was going to get fired!!!

Such has been the case with nearly every Canadian majority government - the majority party in the house did not receive the majority of the popular vote.

Heck, neither did Bob Rae or Elizabeth May get more than 50% of the votes in their riding either.

Face it, with first past the post nearly every government will be "not supported by the majority" and will be a "dictatorship of some small percentage of the electorate".

Go ahead and complain, but at least be honest that when the party you support wins a parliamentary majority, it is very likely that more people voted against them then for them.

If you lived in China and blogged something like this you'd be in jail if you were lucky.

I find it ironic that she protested in the house that protects her right to protest in the first place.

Now if she had gone to China and protested on the very anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre then I'd be impressed. But of course, she'd never have got that far.

I wouldn't hire this girl. Too risky. But she's still young and can bounce back.

Agreed.

What did she do, she held up a sign.

She made a quiet and peaceful statement, and accepted the consequences of her actions.

What's the big deal?

We don't live in China - we have a country people like this young girl fought to keep free - and thanks to my parents generation, many of whom gave up their lives to keep us free. With sanctimonious prattling like yours being the thought of the day, it won't be free for long - especially as Harper hands us over to the US and big oil.
