Tonight as I flicked from one channel to another, trying to avoid the blathering nothingness of Canada's new political reality and the face of Flaherty, I saw two disturbing scenes juxtaposed: the devastating news and appalling suffering of young girls in Afghanistan who had acid thrown in their faces for going to school, and images of fawning fathers escorting their daughters to the Grand Purity Ball in Oregon. For how many more centuries will women be treated as pawns in the vicious sick games men play to make themselves feel important. It makes me physically ill.
