Wow The Penny Just Dropped
If Harper is acting as if he might go down in January, then we can read between the lines that he knows he will not be putting out a palatable budget in January. Or in other words there's no bloody way he is going to give up his ideology to work with the opposition in a genuine way.

If I hadn't seen Harper's press conference the day after the Economic Update (in which he was so visibly shaken), I'd believe that this was all part of his master plan to get a majority - that he wants a coalition to take over, piss off Canadians, and lead to an election that he can win. That may be his Plan B. It's not clear whether the Conservatives will keep him if he loses the government, but he's probably already got that one in hand too.
At least, for the first time in a long time, I feel like we have a leader who will figure this stuff out and stand up to Harper.
