Who would show his colleagues a picture of his scantily clad girlfriend? - oh right, it was a mistake - they were really admiring the dog - possible I guess - good thing we've no respect left to lose for certain politicians and don't expect them to actually work in parliament. Don't forget this is the guy who handed out the fake buttons at the Liberal Leadership Convention - more clean fun I guess.
3. Interesting that the media's comment was that Moore is one of the most likeable guys in parliament - interesting the types parliamentarians like, interesting that that cleans the slate. I guess if no one likes you, you'd better watch your back.
4. And finally for me, the utter shame of it all was the way the men around Mathyssen behaved when she was speaking - when they did not know whether what she was saying was true or not. They got up, walked in front of her, made faces. They showed we have accomplished very little in terms of respect for women in politics. And the media weren't far behind, even respectable Don Newman tried to brush it off.

Oh there's serious blowback alright: and it's going to be on Irene Mathyssen, not James Moore.
Rather than take the matter to the Tory whip, or further investigate the matter first, Mathyssen thought I'd be okay to stand up in the House of Commons and smear James Moore. I guess the fact she was personally offended is sufficient substitute for, you know, facts and proof.
Even more disgusting is her not-so-subtle reference to "on the eve of December 6" - as if trying to somehow link "guys like James Moore" who look at scantily clad women, and the psycho who gunned down 14 women in Montreal 18 years ago.
Feminism has won many great and noble victories in the last few decades, but it's moments like Mathyssen's that taint all those accomplishments.
Can we give this a break, CON or not. This whole story is pathetic. Especially so, for the NDP, but we get dragged along as well, thanks to Redman's big mouth.

Having worked several election campaigns against Irene Mathyessen, this case did not surprise me one bit. I highly doubt Mr. Moore was looking at pictures of his girlfriend, then again computer geeks often claim to have lingerie model girlfriends, so in his mind it may be true.
During election campaigns, Irene Matheyssen has contacted the ex-wives of opponents and planted all candidate meeting questions with accusations of child support arrears and spousal abuse. The term "feminist" should not be applied to her as her behavior is just as disgusting as Mr. Moores. This person has no business serving in the House of Commons.
The reason both Liberal and NDP MP's have appologized is...wait for it...they were wrong. Yep, thats why you say your sorry, and, to their credit they said they were sorry. End of story. He's a good guy and an honest man, and, I imagine both Redmen and Mathyssen are good and honest people as well, they just got carried away. I'm not sure whats so hard for you to understand and see. Oh..is a woman in a bikini now considered scantily clad?? It just seems that all 4 party's and alot of bloggers gotta chill out stay focused on the important things.

1. Ms. Mathyssen and her boss are very proud to attend the annual Gay Pride parade - not that there's anything wrong with it!
There, they can be regaled by views of various states of undress - both men and women. There is usually also a strong contingent of men dressed up as "provocative women."
Ms. Mathyssen doesn't seem to object to those displays as objectifying women, does she?

Thanks gabby for addressing my points - many just spew venom. I think the core issue is the concern that people making decisions for all Canadians, (at least half of whom are women) may make very bad decisions if they see women as sex fodder or baby making machines. We know the cons see women as the latter and the suspicion among women that the cons also think the former provokes a somewhat visceral reaction. Likewise the non-cons who share similar views of women have a somewhat visceral reaction when they are challenged on it.
No I am not Delacourt but I like her approach. I'd like to see her 'let er rip' once in a while.

Reform/Conservative women like former MP Deb Gray, and current MPs Bev Oda, Diane Ablonczy, and Pat Davidson, among others, typical of what conservatives think of women? Sex fodder or baby making machines? Surely you jest!
If anything, they exemplify the variety of Canadian women, with different backgrounds, who chose what they wanted to do and their (conservative) constituents trusted them enough to elect them.

You also dismiss the "interesting historical points" but fail to see that some conservative men must have either helped or left the way open for those conservative women who wanted to be part of the political process.
Likewise, some liberal progressive men must have blocked those same aspirations.
I simply find the stereotype of conservatives in general, and conservative men in particular, as
viewing women "as sex fodder or baby making machines" inconsistent with reality.
Not only does it diminish men, but it also continues to cast women as victims, and thus diminishes women too - as incapable weaklings.
Anyway, I doubt any other arguments will change your point of view - so let's leave it at that.
